Partner Spotlight

Welcome to the latest edition in our series of profiles where we shine the spotlight on AireSpring's amazing partners. This time, we're speaking with Krista Olnick of PremierComm.

Tell us about your career history and how you got started with PremierComm.

I have worked in technology for 30 years, and I’ve been involved with telecommunications for most of that time. After working as an Account Executive at D&E Communications for ten years, I joined PremierComm, where I currently serve as an Inside Sales Support Specialist. Since we sold off the management group of our company to MicroCorp in 2011, we have worked closely with them as a sister company finding and executing deals.

Our strength as a VAR lies in our ROI model and our attention to transport services. With any telecommunications technology, there is a transport aspect that is sometimes neglected by some of our competitors. We, on the other hand, focus heavily on maximizing ROI and efficiency for our customer’s transport services. By saving money on transport services, the customer is then able to re-allocate their communications budget and invest in technology upgrades.

What do you like about working with AireSpring?

I think your QuoteSpring tool is wonderful for agents. When I first joined PremierComm, I was a pricing analyst and worked with 60 plus carriers. So I have come to appreciate the differentiators which make my life easier and help PremierComm close deals. In that regard, I can’t express enough how useful the QuoteSpring quoting tool is to get deals moving. Most carriers will take days to process a pricing request, whereas I can get pricing from AireSpring instantly! It also helps that AireSpring has so many providers to choose from, giving us the ability to truly get our customers the best pricing at a moment’s notice.

What would you say is the secret to success in this industry?

Paying attention to the details can be the key to winning deals. When PremierComm approaches a customer, our first objective is to understand everything about their current telecommunications services. Rather than throwing solutions at them, we go deep into their telecommunications service history and collect as much detail as possible. Then, once we truly know the customer’s needs, we do our own work to determine how to maximize their ROI. As I mentioned, there are often inefficiencies on the transport side of their services that many carriers will overlook or take that for granted. But by focusing on these kinds of less glamorous details, we are able to save our customers money on their telecommunications bill.

The benefit is that our customers are ultimately able to entertain solutions and technology upgrades once we have re-organized other aspects of their telecommunications expenses. Thus, by focusing first on the minutiae, we are able to offer our customers services they may not have considered prior to cutting expenses. The moral of the story is to do your research on your customer’s needs and never neglect the details!

What do you think will be important to pay attention to in 2017?

The cloud isn’t new, but the market is still catching up. For us in telecom, cloud technology is something we may be taking for granted. Yet, while many customers are moving to the cloud, some are expressing concerns about its security. We still have customers who request premise-based systems, despite the fact that they might save money by migrating to hosted services. So, as much as the cloud is a must for any telecommunications provider, I still think it’s important that providers are able to bring more wary customers reliable premise-based solutions until the cloud completely takes over the market space.

What do you do in your free time?

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband and I have two wonderful daughters, both of whom are grown up and independent young women. So whenever I get to see them is a blessing! Otherwise, my husband and I are looking forward to Spring when we can jump back on our bikes and go hiking in more reasonable weather.

Thank you, Krista, for sharing with us!

Meet the AireSpring Team

At AireSpring, we know that it is our dedication to customer service that sets us apart, and customer service begins with great employees. Here is your chance to get to know the AireSpring team that oversees your orders and delivers great service every day. This time, we are speaking with Bradley Port, Director of Wholesale Voice.

Please tell us about your history and how you got into telecom.

My first job in telecom happened by mistake. It was the early 1980’s and I was working as a building security guard in Los Angeles. I had just been discharged from the military due to an injury, where I had served as Captain in the U.S. Army. With my active duty military service completed, I was open to any career possibilities that might come my way. Micom Systems was moving their corporate headquarters from Chatsworth to Simi Valley, where I was working security in their new building. I became friendly with their telecom manager as they set up their offices. After they moved into the new building, they put out a job listing for a Jr. Phone Tech. I got the job, and my long career in telecommunications began.

After Micom Systems, I went to work for a company called American National Telecom (ANT), where I was hired as a Dialer Installer. I worked my way up over the years to become the VP of Operations, and was responsible for converting ANT from a switchless reseller into a switched carrier. Once I had everything set up, it took me one week to move all of the customers from the carrier we were reselling to our brand-new switch at the colocation center at the One Wilshire colocation center. They called a few days later and asked us where all the traffic went!

After American National shut down, I became the Director of Customer Service for a company called ACT Networks, where I managed their worldwide customer service teams in Southeast Asia, as well as the United States. It was with ACT Networks that I had my first foray into the Asian telecommunications market. Years later, I started a company with two business partners called Control Network Systems, and I set up our networks in the US, Vietnam, India Pakistan and West Africa. Later, I joined another start-up venture called Accela, and was tasked with setting up service to call centers in the US, Philippines. As VP of Operations at Accela, I directed our entire Philippines division and was making quarterly trips to the Pacific Islands. By that point, I had extensive experience in setting up and managing routing systems through the United States and Asia, which is something I still do today with AireSpring.

After 12 years with Accela I sensed it wasn’t going to last much longer, so I began searching for a new opportunity. I had met the Lonstein’s in the 1990’s because I was providing consulting services for a billing company they hired. I still had their contact information two decades later, so I emailed Avi [Lonstein, CEO] asking about any potential opportunities. It wasn’t long before I flew out to meet with Arno [Vigen, CFO] and Daniel [Lonstein, COO] and was hired as Director of Wholesale Voice.

What do you like about working for AireSpring?

The best part about working for AireSpring is that they allow their employees to grow and stretch within their role. My title doesn’t necessarily do my day to day job functions justice, since I touch on so many different aspects of the Wholesale Operations here at AireSpring. I get to deal with carriers, customers, and assist in sales with our SVP of Wholesale Voice, Kevin Griffo, and Sales Engineer, Chuck Long and the Account Mangers. As a result, I am involved in the both technical and sales roles. I have five people who report to me in our India and Philippines offices, and I am responsible for ensuring that AireSpring routes customer calls correctly and to quality carriers. Overall, my wide base of responsibility is perfect for me given my executive experience managing large operations teams across the world.

What are your hobbies outside of the office?

I’ve been married for 36 years to my wife, with whom I have two daughters and four grandchildren. We live in Houston, TX. My eldest has a son, who likes to go shooting with me at the range occasionally, and my younger daughter has three girls, who aren’t as interested in the range for some reason!

We are very much involved in our church. I even bought my own 12-seater van to bring disadvantaged youth from the suburbs to church each Sunday. I stop by their houses on Saturday to remind them that I’ll be there bright and early to get them, and then on Sunday morning we make sure they are dressed and fed and we take them to and from church. That eats a lot of my weekend, but it’s more than worth the time.

When my wife and I do have free time, we like to visit Houston’s arts district and visit museums or go to shows as they come around. Otherwise, I am on AireSpring’s escalation list – so I’m pretty much at work, all the time!

Thanks for speaking with us, Brad!
